Wallingford and Meriden Town News and Fun - September

Mayor’s Corner - Meriden
Dear Friends,
Let me begin by offering my sympathy and condolences to Chris and Sarah Bourdon on the untimely passing of their son Noah. My heart goes out to Chris, Sarah, and their family. Chris is the recreation director for the City of Meriden and has had a positive impact on the lives of so many Meriden children. May God give you strength and courage and bless both of you.
I hope you are relaxed from an enjoyable summer. With fall on the horizon, our children have headed back to clean schools and enthusiastic teachers. For many students, this was the first day at a new school, and for our kindergarten students this was their actual first day of school. I wish all the students, parents, teachers, and staff a successful and enjoyable school year. Best of Luck!!!
As you drive around the City, you can’t help noticing some exciting changes and new additions. Whether it is the new Castle View Plaza on West Main Street, the future home of AutoZone on Cook Avenue, the preparation work for a new Burger King and Walgreens Plaza on East Main Street, the new Starbucks/Cold Stone Creamery Plaza on South Broad Street, the Borders renovations at Westfield Shoppingtown, or Webster Insurance on Preston Avenue, Meriden is continuing to attract new businesses and quality developments.
We also will begin HUB demolition in late October and are making good progress on the linear trail by Red Bridge in South Meriden. While the housing market might have cooled, it is still very active in the City of Meriden. We continue to recruit new quality single family homes to our city. Drive by Cobblestone on Yale Avenue, Preston Woods on Preston Avenue or Bridgefield Commons on Baldwin Avenue to see signs of new homes on the horizon.
Our neighborhood leaders and Neighborhood Initiative team continue to improve the climate and culture of our city. I would like to publicly thank them for the extremely successful National Night Out Event this summer and for their pride and dedication to our City.
Thank you for all your support!
Sincerely,

Mark D. Benigni
Mayor
