“A READER’S FEAST” BOOK DISCUSSION SERIES AT MERIDEN PUBLIC LIBRARY

Meriden Public Library will be hosting a four session book discussion series titled “A Reader’s Feast” organized by the Connecticut Humanities Council.

Our taste in food – what we eat (and avoid); how we grow, select, prepare and serve it, with whom we eat and under what circumstances—is culturally mediated in ways powerful but often unobtrusive. If we are what we eat, we are also what we read. The books in this series nourish the mind, the senses, and the sensibilities. Participants will be invited to supplement the readings with cookbooks and recipes whose significance in their lives and culture they will be asked to define, to interpret, and to question.

The session will take place on Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. in the Griffin Room.

Christopher Brown, an educator from East Haven, will lead the discussion.

The schedule and books that will be discussed is as follows:

February 6 “The Natural History of the Senses” by Diane Ackerman

February 20 “The Art of Eating” by M. F. K. Fisher

March 5 “The Mistress of Spices” by Chitra B. Divakaruni

March 19 “Chocolat” by Joanne Harris

The discussion series is free and all are invited to participate. To reserve a seat, please contact the Community Services Department at (203) 630-6349, email comsvc@hotmail.com or sign up online at http://www.meridenlibrary.org/ and click on “Adult events.”
